In the early morning hours of August 28, 2000, a routine traffic stop on northbound I-95 in Camden County, Georgia, turned into a fatal encounter for a dedicated officer. Sergeant Carlton Daniel Jenkins, a 36-year-old male with the Camden County Sheriff's Office, was tragically shot and killed at approximately 12:39 a.m. near mile marker 19. A seven-year veteran of the department, he had been recognized as Officer of the Year in 1999 and was survived by his wife and five children.
