A Sweet Sixteen celebration turned into a scene of chaos and violence, tragically ending the life of 16-year-old Molly Allysun Brooke Cohran, a female from the Atlanta, Georgia area, on June 3, 2007. That evening, Molly attended a graduation party at the St. Ives Crossing apartment clubhouse in Stockbridge. The gathering, intended to be a joyous occasion, spiraled out of control as the night progressed.
The party, which began peacefully, soon attracted a large number of uninvited guests from surrounding areas, swelling the crowd to well over a hundred teenagers. Despite the presence of adult chaperones, the atmosphere grew tense, and a fistfight broke out. The initial altercation quickly escalated, leading to stabbings and ultimately, gunfire. In the ensuing panic, attendees scrambled to flee the chaotic scene.
When law enforcement arrived, they discovered a harrowing sight. Molly Cohran and another 16-year-old girl, Yahshika Frye, had been fatally shot. Eight other teenagers sustained injuries, ranging from gunshot wounds to stab wounds. The investigation into the violent outbreak was immediately launched, with authorities working to piece together the events that led to the tragic loss of two young lives.
In the weeks that followed, the Henry County Police Department made two arrests in connection with the murders. Eighteen-year-old Dewayne Ivory was taken into custody and charged with being a party to the crime of murder. It was reported that Ivory handed the gun to 18-year-old Labaron Devon Curry, who was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of murder. Police believed that both Molly and Yahshika were innocent bystanders caught in the senseless violence.
The legal process that followed brought some measure of justice for the victims and their families. Labaron Devon Curry was convicted for the murders of Molly Cohran and Yahshika Frye and received a life sentence for his crimes. Dewayne Ivory was charged with making false statements to the police and as a party to the crime of murder.
