Veondus Ikeyon Dennis, a 21-year-old Black male, was killed on May 10, 2014, after what authorities and later court testimony described as a chain of tension that began at South DeKalb Mall and ended in gunfire on Shamrock Drive in Decatur. Dennis had gone to the mall with friends, including Antwan Wheeler and Kevyn Courtney, during an afternoon that was already charged with hostility.
