In the summer of 2014, the life of 40-year-old Sharonda Larisse Hogans James was tragically cut short in Valdosta, Georgia. On July 8th, a Valdosta police officer on patrol discovered her lying near the intersection of East Moore Street and North Forrest Street. She had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. First aid was administered at the scene before she was rushed to South Georgia Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
The investigation into her death quickly focused on her estranged husband, 40-year-old Donnaille Lamar James. Authorities determined that he had shot his wife and then fled the scene in her white Chevrolet Venture. He later abandoned the vehicle near a CitiTrends store on Lakeland Avenue before leaving the city altogether. The search for Donnaille James concluded within hours of the discovery of his wife's body. Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations located and arrested him in Cuthbert, Georgia.
Faced with the evidence against him, Donnaille Lamar James pleaded guilty to charges of malice murder and armed robbery. For the murder of his estranged wife, he was sentenced to life in prison. According to the terms of his sentence, he will not be eligible for parole until he has served a minimum of 30 years. The sentencing for the armed robbery charge was scheduled to take place at a later date, with a potential penalty ranging from 10 years to life in prison.
