In the early morning hours of November 12, 2017, the quiet of a Valdosta, Georgia street was broken by the sound of a car crash. When police officers arrived at the 600 block of York Street at approximately 1:11 a.m., they found a silver 2004 Buick Lesabre that had struck two electrical poles. Inside the vehicle were the bodies of 19-year-old Geneva Norwood, an African American female, and 26-year-old Clarence Burnett.
Initially, their deaths were believed to be the tragic result of a motor vehicle accident. However, upon further examination, it was discovered that both Norwood and Burnett had sustained gunshot wounds. The focus of the investigation quickly shifted, and the case was reclassified as a double homicide.
