In the late summer of 2014, the life of a 31-year-old African American woman from Lithonia, Georgia, was tragically cut short. On September 15, Marquita Smith was found deceased, the victim of a violent act that also claimed the life of 34-year-old Nathaniel Dumas. The grim discovery was made by a maid at the Knights Inn on Panola Road, where both victims had been shot.
