This violent end marked the first murder in the apartment complex.
The investigation into Ashley's death quickly focused on her 22-year-old partner, Laura Bozeman. According to police reports, the couple had been embroiled in verbal and physical altercations for two days leading up to the shooting. During questioning, Bozeman made incriminating statements regarding her involvement in Ashley's death. A weapon was also recovered at the scene.
Laura Bozeman was subsequently arrested and charged with murder in connection with Ashley Belle's death. She was taken to the Fulton County Jail. The case brought a somber focus to the issue of domestic violence within same-sex relationships, prompting discussions and calls for greater awareness and support for victims. In the wake of the tragedy, friends and family of Ashley expressed their grief and shock, turning to social media to share their memories and establishing a GoFundMe account to assist with her burial expenses. Funeral services for Ashley were held on February 3, 2015, at the Willie A. Watkins Historic West End Chapel, with interment at Lincoln Cemetery.
