On a summer evening in Columbus, Georgia, the life of 38-year-old Johann Gamble, a Black / African American male, was tragically cut short. On July 20, 2015, outside his own home at the Pembrook Court apartments, Gamble was fatally shot in an incident witnessed by his two daughters who were inside the residence at the time. The violence erupted following a physical altercation between Gamble and a man identified as Andre Dixon.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to two
brothers, Andre and Jeremy Dixon. According to witness statements, while Andre Dixon and Johann Gamble were engaged in a physical fight, Jeremy Dixon shot Gamble. This account was a crucial piece of the investigative puzzle that led law enforcement to the Dixon brothers. Further evidence came from surveillance footage at a nearby grocery store, which captured the brothers in a green Mercury Marquis in the vicinity shortly before the deadly encounter. A distinctive tattoo on Jeremy Dixon's left arm also aided in his identification as a suspect.
Following the investigation, both Andre and Jeremy Dixon were apprehended and faced a series of serious charges. Andre Dixon was charged with murder and simple battery for his role in the altercation that preceded the shooting. Jeremy Dixon, the alleged gunman, faced charges of murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. In the subsequent legal proceedings, Andre Dixon entered a plea of not guilty to the murder charge.
