In the summer of 2025, a young man's life was cut short in a quiet residential neighborhood in Columbus, Georgia. Just days after his 21st birthday, Jacquez Tremayne Banks, a male, was fatally shot on the evening of Thursday, July 3rd. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. in the 4800 block of Hearthstone Drive, a street within the Hearthstone subdivision situated off Warm Springs Road and Schomburg Road.
Residents in the area reported hearing the sound of three to four gunshots, which was
followed by the swift arrival of first responders. Upon their arrival, they discovered Banks, who had been pronounced deceased at the scene by the Muscogee County Coroner's Office. He had just celebrated his birthday on June 30th.
The Columbus Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit, along with their Crime Scene Investigations Division, descended upon the scene to begin their inquiry into the deadly shooting. Investigators were observed placing multiple evidence markers in the street as they worked to piece together the events that led to the young man's death.
As of the initial reports, the investigation into the death of Jacquez Tremayne Banks is ongoing. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in the case, and no arrests have been announced.
