It was November 3rd, and for many months, his disappearance was another statistic in a city grappling with a high volume of missing persons cases. Sergio was no stranger to a transient life, having resided in multiple boys' homes and occasionally living on the streets.
He had a history of running away, sometimes for a day or two, other times for a week before being found and returned, only to disappear again.
The quiet concern for the teenager's whereabouts turned to a grim discovery on March 9, 2023. Behind the Kysor Warren factory in East Columbus, human remains were found near a storm drain by an employee checking for debris. It would take until June 24th for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's crime lab to positively identify the skeletal remains as those of Sergio Alamo, who was 18 years old at the time his body was discovered. The cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound to the head, and his case was officially ruled a homicide.
