In the fading light of a Saturday evening in Savannah, Georgia, a domestic dispute spiraled into a tragedy that claimed the life of 21-year-old Marquita Jones. On November 28, 2015, what began as a disagreement between Jones and a man identified as 20-year-old Jordan Fields escalated into a mobile confrontation on Abercorn Street. Investigators believe the two had been in a relationship at some point.
The conflict unfolded as both individuals drove in separate vehicles.
Dispatchers monitoring the situation could hear the terrifying sound of gunshots being fired from one car at the other. The chase continued until the vehicles reached the area of Edgewater Road near Montgomery Cross Road. There, the violent encounter reached its devastating conclusion when one vehicle crashed into the other.
When officers from the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene, they discovered both Jones and Fields deceased with gunshot wounds. A preliminary investigation led detectives to believe that the incident was a murder-suicide. It was determined that Marquita Jones was struck by bullets fired from the vehicle driven by Jordan Fields. Subsequently, Fields sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation by the SCMPD Violent Crimes detectives, forensics officers, and the Chatham County Coroner pointed to a grim end to the domestic dispute.
