A verbal altercation in an apartment building parking lot on a Thursday morning in Savannah, Georgia, tragically escalated, leaving a young woman dead. On December 3, 2015, 19-year-old Johnee' Williams was shot and died at the scene on the 500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue.
Investigators determined that Williams had been in a dispute with her ex-boyfriend, 20-year-old Malique Francis. During the argument, Francis reportedly shot Williams before fleeing the area on foot.
The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department initiated a thorough search for Francis, involving multiple units including SWAT, K9 teams, and hostage negotiators.
Authorities were able to make contact with Francis via his cell phone and tracked him to a residence on the 2200 block of Iowa Street. As police surrounded the home and urged him to surrender, a gunshot was heard from inside. The SWAT team then entered the residence and found Francis deceased from what investigators believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The police confirmed that all victims and suspects in the case were accounted for.
