In the late hours of a Saturday evening in Savannah, Georgia, the life of 28-year-old Sandee Alvonia Warren was tragically cut short. On December 8, 2018, at the America's Best Value Inn on Ogeechee Road, Warren was found near the lobby suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. First responders from the Savannah Police Department and the Georgia State Patrol arrived at the scene, but Warren succumbed to her injuries and died at the motel.
Witnesses at the motel quickly identified a suspect,
24-year-old Joshua Boyd of Garden City, who was said to be armed with a handgun and had barricaded himself in one of the motel rooms. As law enforcement officers confronted Boyd, the situation escalated, resulting in multiple shots being fired by the officers. Boyd was struck by the gunfire and died at the scene. A handgun was later recovered from the motel room he had occupied.
The investigation into the events of that night revealed a history of domestic violence, casting a somber light on the circumstances leading to Warren's death. While the Savannah police took the lead in the investigation of Warren's homicide, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to conduct an independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting of Boyd, a standard procedure in such cases. The tragic event left behind a grieving family and community, including Warren's four sons, who were remembered in her obituary. Funeral services for Sandee Warren were held the following Saturday at the Second Arnold Missionary Baptist Church, with her interment at Woodville Cemetery.
