In the early morning hours in South Fulton County, a dispute escalated into deadly violence, leaving one man dead and two others wounded. The incident unfolded at the Hickory Park apartments on Delano Road, where an argument preceded the fatal shooting.
Following the initial confrontation, a woman, along with Mustafa Omar Kelly and another man, went into her apartment, locking her boyfriend, Sammy Lee Roberts, out.
Roberts attempted to get back into the apartment he shared with his girlfriend to retrieve a gun. When he was unable to gain entry, he left the premises.
He later returned, this time armed with another pistol. Roberts managed to force his way into the apartment and opened fire on the three individuals inside. Kelly was fatally shot in the attack. The woman was struck in the shoulder, and the other man was wounded in his back.
In the aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement launched a search for the 22-year-old suspect. A few days later, Sammy Lee Roberts turned himself in to the authorities. Prior to the homicide, Roberts had a history of domestic disputes with his girlfriend, the mother of his child. He had been arrested a couple of months earlier for allegedly beating her and damaging her car. Those charges included battery, family violence, and criminal trespassing, and he had been released from jail about a month before the deadly shooting.
