In the late evening of August 18, 2016, a knock at the door of his Fitzgerald, Georgia, home would tragically mark the final moments for 26-year-old Michael Alan Moore. A male, Moore was at home with his wife and child when three individuals arrived asking to speak with him. He stepped outside to meet them, briefly re-entered his house, and then went back out. Shortly after, the sound of a single gunshot pierced the night.
Moore stumbled back inside, having been shot in the chest, and collapsed in his living room, succumbing to his injury.
The investigation into Moore's death, conducted by the Fitzgerald Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, quickly pointed to a suspect. A warrant was issued for the arrest of 16-year-old Herbert Robinson III. Authorities believed Robinson to be the shooter and sought public assistance in locating him, cautioning that he should be considered armed and dangerous.
Following his apprehension, Herbert Robinson III was charged with the murder of Michael Moore. He was subsequently convicted of malice murder, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Robinson later appealed his convictions, but the Supreme Court of Georgia affirmed the jury's verdict in a decision dated April 20, 2020.
