Laron Lowe III, a 32-year-old African American male, was tragically killed on August 21, 2016, in Atlanta, Georgia. A loving father to a six-week-old son, Lowe was working a second job as a security guard at the 29 Degrees Sports Bar in East Point to support his new baby. His life was cut short after an argument with three men at his place of work.
Following his shift in the early morning hours, Lowe and a female co-worker were driving home when they were followed.
As they drove through College Park, the men who had been involved in the earlier dispute pulled alongside their vehicle in a white Ford Escape and opened fire. Lowe was struck in the head by a single gunshot and died a short time later. His co-worker, who was also in the vehicle, survived the attack.
The investigation into Lowe's murder quickly led to the identification of three suspects: Malcolm Pitts, and twin brothers Isaiah and Leon Adams. Pitts surrendered to the police, while the Adams brothers were also taken into custody and all three were charged with murder. Surveillance footage from the sports bar captured the three men getting into the same Ford Escape that was used in the shooting.
In the subsequent court proceedings, both Isaiah and Leon Adams were convicted of malice murder and other offenses. A Fulton County jury found them guilty, and they were each sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 15 years. Isaiah Adams' appeals, which cited insufficient evidence and ineffective legal counsel, were ultimately denied by the Supreme Court of Georgia. Leon Adams IV's conviction was also upheld despite his appeal. Malcolm Pitts was slated to face trial at a later date on charges including murder and aggravated assault.
