In the early morning hours of a June day in 2017, in Gainesville, Georgia, a party at a mobile home on Barnes Drive took a tragic turn, ending in the death of 24-year-old Cornelius Gordon. Gordon was not a resident of the mobile home but was attending a party at the location. Shortly before 2 a.m., while sitting inside a Toyota Camry, an individual approached the vehicle and shot him in the head. Friends rushed Gordon to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, but his injuries proved fatal.
The Hall County Sheriff's Office quickly launched an investigation into the shooting. Their efforts led them to identify 24-year-old Delwoun Quintess Williams as a person of interest. Williams was initially arrested on an outstanding probation warrant from the previous month. Following further investigation into the homicide, authorities charged Williams with felony murder in connection with Gordon's death.
Subsequent legal proceedings revealed more details about the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting. In a September grand jury indictment, Williams faced a string of charges, including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, terroristic acts, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and participation in criminal street gang activity.
