On October 2, 2017, Hillard Martin, a 22-year-old Black man, was found shot to death in an alley in the Unionville neighborhood of Macon, Georgia. Bibb County sheriff's deputies discovered his body in the 100 block of Pansy Avenue around 9 AM. Martin had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation into his death was immediately classified as a homicide.
