In the early morning hours of March 21, 2019, tragedy struck a family visiting relatives at The Park at Peachtree Apartments in Peachtree Corners, Georgia. William Thurman, a 17-year-old male, and his 25-year-old brother, Billy Roy Thurman, were in the complex's laundry room when they were fatally shot. The brothers, who had recently relocated to Gwinnett County from Gary, Indiana, with dreams of making their mark in the hip-hop music world, were simply washing clothes when the violence
erupted.
Their 27-year-old cousin, Beonka Thurman, was with them at the time and suffered a gunshot wound to her foot. Despite her injury, she was able to make the frantic 911 call that brought Gwinnett County Police to the scene around 4 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered the two brothers deceased inside the laundry room. Beonka was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The family, who did not reside at the gated apartment complex, was there visiting another family member.
In the wake of the double homicide, investigators worked to piece together the events that led to the shooting. However, a clear motive for the attack remained elusive, and authorities did not immediately identify any suspects. The Gwinnett County Police Department appealed to the public for any information that could lead to an arrest and indictment in the case, which they described as having the appearance of an execution. The family, devastated by the loss of the two brothers, set up a GoFundMe page to help transport their bodies back to Indiana for funeral services. As of the latest available reports, the case remains unsolved, with no arrests having been publicly announced.
