Tony McIntosh, a 20-year-old African American male, was fatally shot on October 3, 2014, in the South Deering neighborhood of Chicago, IL. The incident occurred around 9:20 p.m. when Tony was outside in the 10600 block of South Yates. An unknown assailant approached him and shot him in the head. Tony was transported to Trinity Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:50 p.m.

The investigation into Tony McIntosh's death led to the arrest of Burundi A. Martin, a 25-year-old male from the 12200 block of South Ada Street. Martin was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting. According to prosecutors, Tony McIntosh, his older brother, and their mother, Toneya McIntosh, were on the porch of their home when Martin approached them. Martin, who was nearby, walked closer to the porch and greeted the family while keeping his hand in his pocket. He then pulled out a gun and fired once, shattering a glass screen door. As the family dropped to the ground, Martin walked closer and fired three more times, hitting Tony twice before fleeing on foot.
Toneya McIntosh played a crucial role in identifying the suspect. She learned the suspect's nickname, "Shorty-mac," and provided this information to detectives. The police ran the name through their system and tracked down Martin. Toneya positively identified Martin from a photo array and later in a physical lineup. An investigative alert was issued, and Martin was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He was denied bail in court.
Tony McIntosh was described by his mother as a jokester who loved kids and had three of his own. He had a passion for music and taught himself to play the keyboard at a young age. Tony was raised in northwest suburban Elmhurst before moving to the city at the age of 13. Despite the arrest and charges against Martin, Toneya McIntosh still seeks closure, as the motive behind the shooting remains unknown. She hopes for justice for her son and continues to struggle with the loss.
