A senior at Georgia State University, he was remembered by his family as a hero who died protecting his younger siblings. The incident unfolded at the Abbey Road Condominiums, where three masked individuals reportedly broke in with the intent to rob the family.
The assailants stormed the apartment, and in a selfless act, Jeremy Riley shielded his
siblings from the intruders. It was during this confrontation that he was fatally shot multiple times. His mother, T.J. Riley, who was also present during the home invasion, took immediate and courageous action. She pursued the suspects in her car as they fled the scene, managing to get a partial license plate number before crashing her vehicle.
The information provided by Jeremy's mother proved crucial to the investigation. It led to the subsequent arrest of two suspects, identified as Jeremy Brown and Kadar Whitfield. They were taken into custody and faced charges of first-degree home invasion and felony murder. A third suspect, however, managed to evade capture and remains at large. The motive for the home invasion and murder was believed to be robbery, as Jeremy and his mother had been saving money to start a car business together.
