A domestic dispute in Augusta, Georgia, on the evening of April 16, 2019, ended in the tragic death of two-year-old JaZiah Arianna Yuletta Pollard. The young girl was fatally shot inside her home on Meadowbrook Drive.
The incident began with an argument between JaZiah's mother and her live-in boyfriend, 28-year-old Marquie Gunter, reportedly over the use of a vehicle.
Following the disagreement, Gunter allegedly fired a gun multiple times, striking a vehicle and causing significant damage. When JaZiah's mother ran inside the residence for safety and locked the door, Gunter is said to have kicked the door open. He then fired a single shot from outside into the home, which struck JaZiah in the head.
Emergency services were called to the home at approximately 7:45 p.m. JaZiah was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Authorities quickly identified Marquie Gunter as the suspect and took him into custody. He was subsequently arrested and charged with murder, aggravated assault, second-degree criminal damage to property, and weapons possession by a felon. Investigators confirmed that while Gunter and JaZiah's mother shared an infant child, Gunter was not JaZiah's biological father.
