In the summer of 2019, the life of 49-year-old Shawn David Jackson, a male from Jonesboro, Georgia, came to a tragic and violent end. On July 31st, what began as a domestic dispute over infidelity escalated into a fatal confrontation. His live-in girlfriend, Neworker Hurt, had discovered he was having an affair and confronted him about it. The argument, which started at the other woman's home, continued for hours back at the residence they shared.
Later that night, after the fighting had seemingly ceased and Shawn Jackson had fallen asleep, he was shot three times in the head. Following the shooting, Neworker Hurt allegedly contacted her brother, Shrron Stephan Hurt, to assist her in concealing the crime. Together, they are accused of removing Shawn Jackson's body from their Jonesboro home and transporting it to Alabama. His remains were discovered on August 19, 2019, buried in a shallow grave in Jefferson County. The body was later identified through fingerprints, clothing, and tattoos.
For years, the case remained a missing person investigation, despite the discovery of his body. However, investigators continued to piece together the events leading to his disappearance. In April 2023, nearly four years after Shawn Jackson was killed, a breakthrough in the case led to the arrest of Neworker Hurt. She was taken into custody in an apartment in Atlanta and is currently being held in the Clayton County Jail.
Both Neworker Hurt and her brother, Shrron Stephan Hurt, face a series of serious charges, including Malice Murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, tampering with evidence, and concealing the death of another person. At the time of his sister's arrest, Shrron Stephan Hurt was already incarcerated in a federal prison in West Virginia on charges unrelated to the murder of Shawn David Jackson. The case against both siblings is now proceeding through the legal system.
