On August 9, 2019, Wydeldric "Mel" Denson, a 26-year-old African American man from Milledgeville, Georgia, was fatally shot in the early morning hours. At approximately 3:15 a.m., Milledgeville police responded to reports of a shooting in the 1900 block of Karen Circle. Upon arrival, officers found Denson semi-conscious on the ground, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the stomach. Emergency responders transported him to Oconee Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:46 a.m.
