In the fading light of a November evening in Savannah, Georgia, the life of 13-year-old La'Meya Mitchell was tragically cut short. On November 15, 2019, the young girl was found deceased outside a residence in the 200 block of Seminole Street, the victim of a fatal shooting. responsible. Her 17-year-old boyfriend, Jeremiah Tayeon Seaton, left the scene of the shooting but later walked into a police station and confessed to shooting his girlfriend. This admission led to his prompt arrest in connection with the death of the young female.

In February 2020, a Chatham County grand jury indicted Jeremiah Tayeon Seaton on multiple charges, including felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The indictment alleged that Seaton caused La'Meya's death, irrespective of malice, while in the act of committing aggravated assault.
