On a quiet Thanksgiving morning in McDonough, Georgia, the community was shaken by a grim discovery that ended the promising life of 18-year-old Savannah Mae Fulmer. On November 28, 2019, the bodies of Fulmer and her 19-year-old boyfriend, Dahmir Robinson, were found inside a car on New Orleans Way. Both had been fatally shot in what was later described by authorities as a robbery gone wrong. Fulmer, a senior at Eagles Landing High School and a member of the school's softball team, was expecting her first child.
The investigation into the deaths of the young couple, who had been in a relationship for three years, quickly moved forward. Police arrested 17-year-old Aljahon Joyner in connection with the double homicide. The motive, as determined by law enforcement, was a drug-related robbery. Joyner had reportedly arranged to meet Fulmer and Robinson to purchase marijuana, but his actual intention was to rob them. During the encounter inside the vehicle, Joyner shot both Fulmer and Robinson in the head before fleeing the scene.
In March 2023, Aljanon Antwan Joyner, then 20, pleaded guilty to a slate of charges stemming from the murders. His convictions included malice murder, felony murder, feticide, aggravated assault, armed robbery, and firearm possession charges. Following his guilty plea in Henry County Superior Court, Joyner was sentenced to serve life in prison plus an additional 25 years. The tragic loss of the young couple and their unborn child was deeply felt by their families and the wider community.
