Jermaine Sims, a 31-year-old African American male from Hephzibah, Georgia, was tragically shot on December 15, 2019, on Watkins Street in Augusta. He succumbed to his injuries later that night at Augusta University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:02 a.m. on December 16, 2019. Sims had been released from prison in March 2019 after serving 11 years for various crimes, including armed robbery and fleeing police.
