In the early hours of February 3, 2020, the life of 41-year-old Wallace Vaughn Jr., a male from Lavonia, Georgia, was tragically cut short in a wooded area in northwest Atlanta. His body was discovered just after 1 a.m. off Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway, and it was apparent he had died from a gunshot wound. Vaughn was a devoted father to two young daughters, who were just 7 and 8 years old at the time of his death.
He was laid to rest on Valentine's Day.
The investigation into Vaughn's death led Atlanta police to 22-year-old Clinton Robinson. Robinson was apprehended at his home in southwest Atlanta and subsequently charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection with Vaughn's killing. The motive behind the deadly encounter was a dispute over drugs. The conflict began with an argument at a gas station on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway. Vaughn had reportedly warned Robinson to stay away from his drugs, which were stored in a nearby wooded area.
Following the initial confrontation, witnesses reported seeing Robinson follow Vaughn into the woods near Harwell Road. Shortly after, gunshots rang out. Vaughn had been shot multiple times in the chest and back. Investigators at the scene did not find any shell casings, leading them to believe the weapon used was a revolver, a type of firearm a witness had previously seen Robinson carry.
In July 2023, Clinton Robinson, then 25, was convicted for the murder of Wallace Vaughn Jr. A jury found him guilty of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. For his crimes, Robinson was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 15 years. This was not Robinson's first encounter with the law; he had been released from prison just over a year before Vaughn's murder after serving time for armed robbery and firearm possession charges.
