On a late Monday afternoon, February 24, 2020, the body of 18-year-old Omari Syncere Alexander, an African American male, was discovered by a passing motorist. He was found near a private driveway on County Line Road in a rural area of Long County, Georgia, near Rye Patch. The Long County Sheriff's Office was called to the scene, and it was quickly determined that the young man's death was a homicide. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was brought in to assist with the case, and an autopsy was ordered to determine the precise cause of death.
The investigation into the death of the Hinesville resident and Bradwell Institute student proceeded over the following weeks. In March 2020, the Long County Sheriff's Office, along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement agencies, announced the first arrests in the case. Two men from Hinesville, 27-year-old Byran Denzel Hopkins and 23-year-old Michael Anthony Williams, were taken into custody and charged with murder. Authorities confirmed that the investigation was still active and that more information was being sought from the public.
A few months later, in early June 2020, two additional arrests were made in connection with Alexander's death. Stefphon I. Woods, 23, and Victoria B. Davis, 23, also from Hinesville, were taken into custody. Woods was charged with being a party to the crime of felony murder and a felony probation violation. Davis was charged with making false statements and writings. The investigation continued as law enforcement worked to bring closure to the case and deliver justice for Omari Syncere Alexander and his family.
