In the quiet evening of January 18, 2024, a dispute at the Redwood Ridge Apartments in Forest Park, Georgia, turned deadly, claiming the life of 47-year-old Andre Farrier. A Black male, Farrier was found by Clayton County police responding to a call around 9 p.m. in the 200 block of Morrow Road. He had sustained at least one gunshot wound and was drifting in and out of consciousness. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
The preliminary investigation pointed to an argument between Farrier and a woman who was seen leaving the apartment complex shortly after the shots were fired. Detectives quickly identified 25-year-old Oni Layell Hart as the suspected shooter. Their investigation led them to a residence in the 1700 block of Fielding Way in Hampton, where Hart was believed to be hiding.
What followed was a tense, hours-long standoff as law enforcement from the Clayton County Police Department, with assistance from the City of Lovejoy and the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, attempted to coax Hart out of the home. When their efforts for a peaceful surrender failed, the Clayton County SWAT team was called to the scene. They made entry into the residence and discovered Hart concealed in the attic.
Following her apprehension, Oni Layell Hart was arrested and faced a slew of charges, including felony murder, aggravated assault, prostitution, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and obstruction of an officer. She was subsequently booked into the Clayton County jail.
