In the spring of 2020, a Sunday afternoon in Macon, Georgia, turned tragic, abruptly ending the life of a young man. Doug Terrell Boyd, a 27-year-old Black male, was inside a residence on Napier Avenue on April 19th when violence erupted. He suffered a single, fatal gunshot wound to the chest. In the immediate aftermath, a friend tried to rush Boyd to the hospital. Their desperate drive was cut short when they came upon first responders at the scene of a nearby accident.
Boyd was then transferred to an ambulance and taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, where he was pronounced dead later that evening.
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office launched a homicide investigation that quickly gained momentum. Within days, their efforts, in collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, led to the identification and apprehension of three suspects. The first arrests were made on April 22, when authorities took two brothers into custody. Jimon Tracey Watkins, 22, was arrested in the parking lot of a local food mart, while his brother, 25-year-old ShaMarques Trevon Watkins, was apprehended at an apartment complex.
Two days later, on April 24, the third and final suspect was located and arrested during a traffic stop. Jahrius Isaiah Justus Whitehead, 27, was taken into custody, joining the Watkins brothers. All three men were charged with murder in connection with the death of Doug Boyd. They were subsequently booked into the Bibb County Jail, where they were held without bond.
