In a tragic turn of events on a Friday afternoon in Rockmart, Georgia, a man's life was cut short by gunfire. Quenton John Thomas Eutsey, a 30-year-old male, was found on the front porch of a residence on East Elm Street with a gunshot wound to his stomach. The incident, which occurred on May 22, 2020, began to unfold when a man entered a nearby convenience store and informed a Polk County deputy that he had shot someone.
The man who confessed to the shooting was identified as 64-year-old Marshall Davidson Crews. He reportedly ran into the DK's Food Mart, located across the street from his home, and asked for an ambulance for a man he referred to as 'Q'. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, which was later confirmed to be Crews' own house, they discovered the gravely injured Eutsey. Emergency responders, including personnel from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Redmond EMS, Rockmart Fire and Rescue, and the Rockmart and Polk County Police Departments, administered first aid to Eutsey before he was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center.
Despite the efforts to save him, Quenton Eutsey succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the hospital the following day. Following Eutsey's death, the charges against Marshall Crews were upgraded from aggravated assault and a firearm-related felony to murder. Crews was taken into custody and booked into the county jail without bond. The Rockmart Police Department, along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, have been investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.
