James Lee Petty, a 71-year-old African American man, was found dead in his home in Newnan, Georgia, on June 11, 2020. The initial call to emergency services reported a "person down" at his residence on West Washington Street. Upon arrival, EMS discovered Petty with a fatal gunshot wound. The Newnan Police Department quickly identified the incident as a homicide and launched an investigation to find the perpetrator responsible for the murder of James Lee Petty.
