In the late hours of a Friday evening in Acworth, Georgia, 41-year-old Jon David-Russell Johnson, a white male, was fatally shot. On June 26, 2020, Johnson, who had been playing video games inside a convenience store on Highway 92, stumbled back into the establishment having sustained a single gunshot wound to his torso and collapsed. He was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Investigators determined that the shooting occurred on the sidewalk outside the Hamilton Inn on Wade Green Road, which was located directly across the street from the gas station where Johnson sought help. Johnson had been residing at the nearby inn.
The investigation into Johnson's death quickly pointed to a potential drug-related motive after authorities discovered approximately nine ounces of methamphetamine in his hotel room. This discovery shifted the focus of the investigation, leading authorities to identify several individuals of interest. Two women, 30-year-old Krystal Dianna Campbell and 33-year-old Shene Lucretia Kirk, were publicly identified as persons of interest whom investigators wished to question. Campbell's vehicle was found abandoned in a remote area of Gordon County the day after the shooting. It was also noted that both women had active arrest warrants for prior offenses. Kirk was later taken into custody on a parole violation warrant.
A significant breakthrough in the case came with the identification of two male suspects. After releasing surveillance images, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office identified 19-year-old David Solano of Roswell and 21-year-old Kevin Saucedo of Alpharetta as the individuals sought in connection with Johnson's death. The day after the photos were made public, Solano turned himself in to detectives. That same day, Saucedo was apprehended in DeKalb County. Both men were subsequently charged with conspiracy to commit murder and were held at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center. While these arrests were made, authorities stated that the investigation remained ongoing and that other suspects had not been ruled out.
