On a summer afternoon in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 22, 2020, the life of 29-year-old Robert Kash McKinzie, a Black / African American male, was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire. The incident unfolded around 4:30 p.m. at the Ashley Cascade apartment complex on Kimberly Way SW, as McKinzie was dropping off his girlfriend, the mother of his two children.
What began as a verbal dispute quickly escalated into a triple shooting.
McKinzie was struck by the gunfire and was later found deceased inside his 2006 silver Nissan Pathfinder. His girlfriend sustained a gunshot wound to her leg, and her brother was also injured in the attack. In the immediate aftermath, the wounded victims attempted to drive to a hospital for help. However, their vehicle only made it about a mile before coming to a stop at the intersection of Cascade and Fairburn Roads.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and according to McKinzie's family, the victims did not know their assailant and were not the intended targets. They believe it was a senseless act of violence that shattered their family. The Atlanta Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide, and Crime Stoppers offered a reward of up to $2,000 for information that could lead to an arrest and indictment.
Despite the ongoing investigation and the family's plea for justice, no arrests have been made in the case, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
