In the Peoplestown neighborhood of Atlanta, a life was tragically cut short on the evening of February 10, 2024. That night, 16-year-old Marcellius “Fendi” Satrone Stokes, a Black male student at Maynard Jackson High School, was found with a gunshot wound. The call came in to police around 11 p.m., leading them to the 900 block of Linam Avenue where the shooting had taken place.
Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, the teenager succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting moved swiftly. The very next morning, authorities returned to the house where the fatal incident occurred. There, they arrested 22-year-old Bakari Stokes-Martin in connection with the death. Investigators confirmed that the victim and the suspect were related, though the specific nature of their relationship was not made public. The motive behind the shooting also remained undisclosed by the authorities.
Following his arrest, Bakari Stokes-Martin was charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The community mourned the loss of the young high school student, with funeral services held on March 2, 2024, at Life Changes Walk of Faith in East Point. A public viewing had been held the day prior, allowing friends and family to pay their respects to Marcellius.
