Mark Alden Howard, a 52-year-old African American man from Athens, GA, was fatally shot on August 25, 2020. The incident occurred in broad daylight at the Apex Chevron gas station on North Avenue, with several witnesses present. Howard was sitting in his car when he was approached by Reginald Lang Kelley, a 48-year-old man from Colbert, GA. Kelley, who had a longstanding feud with Howard, shot him twice, leading to his death at the scene.
