In a tragic turn of events that unfolded within the walls of a Fairburn, Georgia home, a dispute between two brothers culminated in a fatal shooting, leaving one man dead and the other facing a murder charge. The incident, which shattered the quiet of their Revere Turn residence, claimed the life of Joseph Delay, a 49-year-old male.
The brothers, who lived together, were engaged in an argument on September 20, 2020. The disagreement escalated, and at some point, Nathaniel Delay, then 30 years old, is alleged to have pulled out a firearm and shot his brother, Joseph, multiple times in the arms, torso, neck, and head. This act of violence was the only homicide the city of Fairburn investigated in all of 2020.
Following the shooting, an arrest warrant was issued for Nathaniel Delay just two days later, but he remained at large. It wasn't until nearly a year later, on a Monday in July 2021, that he was taken into custody. Police were called to the very same home on Revere Turn for another reported fight, which led to his apprehension. At the time of his arrest, Nathaniel had been out of prison for less than four months, having previously served five years for robbery and firearm possession.
Nathaniel Delay was subsequently booked into the Fulton County Jail. A judge denied him bond during his first court appearance. He faced a string of serious charges, including murder, aggravated assault, and commission of a crime by a convicted felon through the use of a firearm. The case then moved forward to navigate the judicial process.
