In the pre-dawn hours of December 18, 2024, a dispute in a Fairburn, Georgia home escalated to a fatal conclusion, leaving two men dead. One of the victims was 35-year-old Tijuan L. Heard, a Black male. The incident unfolded in the Lakes at Cedar Grove community on Bellmist Drive.
The conflict reportedly began the previous day and centered around a vehicle, leading to one of the residents, Zj'Xari Taylor, being told to move out. In the early hours of Wednesday morning, as Taylor attempted to retrieve his belongings with the help of a family member, another argument broke out. This altercation involved Taylor, Heard, and the other resident, 37-year-old Malcombe Jovan Hill.
During the heated exchange, Taylor allegedly shot both Hill and Heard. According to police reports, Taylor claimed that Hill had advanced on him with an unknown object from his waistband, prompting him to fire. He then stated that Heard, who was unarmed, also began advancing toward him, and he shot him as well. After the shooting, neither Taylor nor his family member contacted the authorities. Instead, neighbors discovered the bodies of Hill and Heard in the garage and an adjacent hallway and alerted the police.
Law enforcement officers arrived to find both Heard and Hill deceased at the scene from gunshot wounds. The investigation quickly identified Taylor as the suspect. He was located at a local hospital where he was being treated for a laceration on his thumb. Taylor was arrested and subsequently charged with two counts of murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Authorities have described the incident as domestic-related, stating that all individuals involved knew each other.
