In the early hours of January 8, 2023, the life of 33-year-old Montrez De'Leon McAlister was tragically cut short. A Black male and resident of Fairburn, Georgia, McAlister was a son and a father. On that fateful morning, just before 2 a.m., he was seated at the bar of Los Mariachis Mexican Restaurant on Ella Lane when a man entered the establishment. The unknown individual walked up to McAlister and shot him twice in the head before fleeing the scene.
The assailant was described by witnesses as a light-skinned man, approximately five feet and ten inches tall. He was wearing black joggers and a red hoodie, possibly bearing a Georgia Bulldogs logo. After the shooting, the suspect was seen running out of the restaurant's front door and getting into a white or silver car, which may have been a Nissan. The vehicle was last seen driving away from the parking lot, potentially turning onto Oakley Industrial Boulevard.
Despite the presence of a witness, the killer has not been identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with McAlister's murder. Detectives in Fairburn have since appealed to the public for assistance in identifying a person of interest in the ongoing investigation. A reward of up to $5,000 has been offered for information leading to an arrest. The case remains unsolved. Funeral services for McAlister were held in Bolivar, Tennessee.
