Ricky Jamelle Wilborn, a 28-year-old Black man from Atlanta, was killed on October 16, 2020, in a shooting at the Pavilion Place apartment complex in southwest Atlanta, near Cleveland Avenue SW. Police said officers were sent there at about 11:15 p.m. on a report of a person shot, and when they arrived they found Wilborn on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, turning what should have been an ordinary October night into the kind of sudden violence that leaves a family and neighborhood trying to understand how a life was cut off so quickly.
What emerges from the public accounts is a picture of a young Atlanta native whose life held far more than the final police report. His obituary said he was passionate about nature and science and had recently started a new job. It described his killing as completely unexpected and said his family was shocked and deeply saddened, language that captures the jarring contrast between the everyday rhythm of his life and the abrupt way it ended. In the sparse but telling details left behind online, Wilborn is remembered not just as a homicide victim, but as someone whose future still seemed to be opening up when it was violently taken away.
As for suspects and arrests, Atlanta police later said homicide detectives identified 22-year-old Tre’Sean Henry as the person linked to the shooting on October 26, 2020, and obtained a murder warrant for his arrest. According to police, fugitive detectives then began searching for him and eventually tracked him to Charlotte, North Carolina. With assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service, Henry was taken into custody there without incident on December 29, 2020, and police said he was awaiting extradition back to Atlanta. The public reporting and police notices available online consistently point to Henry as the named suspect and document that arrest, but I did not find reliable online reporting confirming a later trial, conviction, or final court disposition in Wilborn’s case.
