Jerome "Jay" Bates, a 24-year-old African American male, was tragically killed on January 19, 2021, in Augusta, Georgia. Bates was fatally shot at the Allen Homes apartment complex on Peters Road. The incident occurred early in the morning, and Bates was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:40 a.m. by Coroner Mark Bowen.
