An afternoon of schoolwork at her grandmother's home in Macon, Georgia, turned tragic for 8-year-old Miracle Brantley, a young girl who died after being shot. The incident occurred on a Friday, when Miracle and her three siblings were at their grandmother's residence.
According to reports, a gun was brought into the house without the grandmother's knowledge. The children discovered the firearm and were playing with it when it discharged, striking Miracle in the head.
Her brother initially told deputies that his sister had shot herself. Their grandmother, Patricia Reed, heard the gunshot and found Miracle bleeding in the kitchen.
Emergency services were called, and Miracle was first transported to a local hospital. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was subsequently airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Scottish Rite Hospital. Despite medical efforts, Miracle Brantley succumbed to her injuries and passed away on the following Sunday.
The investigation into Miracle's death led to the arrest of a 14-year-old boy. His identity was not publicly released due to his age. The Bibb County Sheriff's Office charged the teenager with involuntary manslaughter, reckless conduct, and possession of a handgun by a person under the age of 18. Authorities stated that the teen was accused of illegally possessing the handgun and bringing it into the home where the fatal shooting occurred. The case was slated to be handled within the juvenile justice system, and officials indicated that the teen would not be charged as an adult.
