Tayquann James, a 36-year-old Black man, came to Columbus from Paterson, New Jersey, and his life ended there on February 1, 2021, after a shooting in the early-morning hours on Steam Mill Road. Online reporting says Columbus police were called to the residence at about 5:16 a.m., found James suffering from a gunshot wound, and despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly before 6 a.m.

The suspect publicly identified in online reports was Michael Brown, who was described as 35 at the time of his arrest.
