In the quiet community of Bishop, Georgia, the morning of March 1, 2021, was shattered by a tragic event within a family home on Riverwalk Road. Seven-year-old Maddox Levi Jones, a male student at Morgan County Primary School, was found deceased in his bedroom from a gunshot wound. The devastating discovery was made after deputies from the Morgan County Sheriff's Office responded to a distressing 911 call from the boy’s father, Douglas Jones, at approximately 7:20 a.m.
The father reported to dispatchers that his wife, Alison Jones, had shot their son and was assaulting him. Earlier that morning, Alison had supposedly told her husband that Maddox would not be going to school because he had an earache. Douglas Jones told authorities that after hearing a gunshot, he ran to his son's room. It was then that Alison allegedly turned the handgun on him, but he was able to disarm her.
