In the late hours of a Tuesday evening in February 2021, a dispute between cousins in an East Lake apartment complex in Atlanta escalated to a fatal conclusion. Richard Caldwell, a 33-year-old African American male, was shot and killed on Greenhaven Drive. The incident, which occurred on February 9, 2021, prompted a swift response from Atlanta police officers who arrived at the scene around 9:40 p.m.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Richard Caldwell behind one of the apartment
buildings, unconscious and suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. Investigators believe the shooting was the result of a fight between Richard and his younger cousin, Adarious Caldwell. The altercation tragically ended with gunfire, leading to Richard's untimely death. His passing was noted in an obituary published in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, with funeral arrangements handled by a funeral home in Lithonia.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, police took 23-year-old Adarious Caldwell into custody at the scene. He was subsequently booked into the DeKalb County Jail in the early hours of the following morning.
