On a Sunday evening in Albany, Georgia, the life of 19-year-old Jamal James Tinch, an African American male, was tragically cut short. On March 21, 2021, Tinch was walking on Davidson Street when he was shot multiple times in the back. A 16-year-old female who was with him at the time was also injured, sustaining a gunshot wound to her leg. First responders pronounced Tinch dead at the scene.
The Albany Police Department's Gang Unit quickly began an intensive investigation, identifying the shooting as a targeted attack. Their efforts led to the identification of several suspects. In the months that followed, authorities issued arrest warrants for multiple individuals. One of the first to be taken into custody was 17-year-old Ryheam Thompson, who was arrested by the Albany Police Department's Gang Unit and uniform officers.
The investigation continued to unfold, leading to the identification of two more primary suspects: 18-year-olds JaQuez Williams and Ronald Hyson. The search for Williams and Hyson extended beyond Albany, and they were eventually located and apprehended in Atlanta by the U.S. Marshal's Office and the Gwinnett County S.W.A.T. team. A fourth individual, 19-year-old Lovell Melvin Mango, was also arrested in connection with the fatal shooting.
The suspects face a litany of serious charges, reflecting the gravity of the crime. These charges include murder, felony murder, malice murder, conspiracy to commit murder, gang participation, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Following their arrests, the individuals were booked into the Dougherty County Jail to await further legal proceedings.
