In the early morning hours of September 2, 2012, a promising life was tragically cut short in Northeast Baltimore. Larelle Ashlyn Amos, a 22-year-old woman, was attending a house party on the 4800 block of the Alameda. As the gathering wound down, Amos was in the front yard when she was suddenly struck in the chest by a stray bullet. The shots are believed to have been fired from a block away.
She was rushed to a local hospital but sadly succumbed to her injuries.
A dedicated mother to a one-year-old son, Amos was described by her family as the light of their lives. She had been a standout student in high school, serving as class president for four years and being a member of the National Honor Society. At the time of her death, she was excelling in her job at a local bank and had plans to marry her high school sweetheart.
Baltimore police detectives investigated the shooting and do not believe that Amos was the intended target of the gunfire. They concluded that she was an innocent bystander in a senseless act of violence. Despite their efforts and pleas to the public for information, the individual or individuals responsible for firing the fatal shot have never been identified.
More than a decade has passed, and the case of who killed Larelle Ashlyn Amos remains unsolved. The gunman is still at large, and no arrests have ever been made in connection with her death. Her family continues to mourn the profound loss of a young woman who had a bright future ahead of her, a life stolen by a random act of violence that left a community heartbroken and a family shattered.
