In the afternoon of November 7, 2019, the life of 33-year-old Amanda Burket was tragically cut short in her own apartment in Baltimore, Maryland. At approximately 2:27 p.m., police responded to a call for a shooting in the 4400 block of Fairhaven Avenue in the Curtis Bay area. Upon their arrival, they discovered Burket inside her residence, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Medical personnel were unable to save her, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of the female victim quickly progressed. Within days, detectives from the Baltimore Police Department's Warrant Apprehension Task Force identified a suspect in the fatal shooting. On November 13, 2019, authorities arrested 28-year-old Ashley Thorne in connection with the crime. Thorne, a resident of the 3800 block of Hanover Street, was taken into custody and transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility.
Following her arrest, Ashley Thorne was formally charged with the first-degree murder of Amanda Burket. Homicide detectives continued to investigate the circumstances and motive surrounding the shooting. The authorities encouraged anyone with additional information to come forward to assist with the ongoing case. A memorial service for Amanda Burket was held on November 16, 2019, at Stallings Funeral Home, where friends and family gathered to mourn her loss.
