In the early morning hours of January 11, 2018, the life of 24-year-old Kabreya Coleman, a Black female, was tragically cut short. Gunfire erupted at approximately 1 a.m. on the 200 block of North Hilton Street in Southwest Baltimore, the very block where Coleman resided. Struck by the bullets, she was rushed to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Coleman succumbed to her injuries, becoming the first woman to be killed in Baltimore in 2018.
Kabreya Coleman was known as a hardworking mother, trying to find a balance between her youth and the responsibilities of raising a child. Her sudden and violent death left her child without a mother. The shooting took place in a neighborhood that had been experiencing a spike in violence, with two other homicides occurring just blocks away in the preceding weeks. It remains unclear if these incidents were related.
In the wake of the shooting, the Baltimore Police Department launched an investigation into Coleman's murder. Authorities appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of those responsible. Despite their efforts and pleas for witnesses to come forward, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with her case. The case remains unsolved, leaving a void in the lives of her family and community.
